IEC 60825-1 is the international safety standard for laser products. In 2014, the new Edition 3 became valid and since then accepted in Europe as EN 60825-1, with acceptance in the USA expected soon. This seminar can be considered as master class for laser product classification and will provide in-depth understanding and background information on the measurement requirements for classification of laser products, as well as the limits for the various laser classes.
Particular emphasis will be placed on Class 1 and Class 2 emission limits, as well as on complex cases of pulsed emission and extended sources, where IEC 60825-1 Edition 3 features significant changes. The seminar thus will have "low power, safe laser products" as main topic; enclosed high power lasers such as materials processing lasers will not be covered.
Dates: | 24.05.2016 - 25.05.2016 |
Attendance fee: | 980,- + 19% VAT |
Place of training: | Hotel Dorint in Freising next to the airport |
Duration | First day: 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Second day: 9.00 am to 3.00 pm |
Registration: | Please take into account that the seminar can only take place when we receive at least 10 registrations before the 14th of April. All registered persons will be informed on the 15th of April if the seminar is confirmed or has to be cancelled. We therefore strongly recommend not booking your flight before that date. The number of participants is limited to 25 persons, in order to archive an optimal learning environment. |
The seminar is held by Karl Schulmeister, PhD, who is a consultant on laser and broadband radiation safety at the Seibersdorf Labor GmbH in Austria, where also a specialised accredited test house is operated. Dr. Schulmeister was the project leader at IEC for the development of Edition 3 of IEC 60825-1 and has been a key member of the IEC and CENELEC laser committee for 20 years.
He is co-author of the handbook "Laser Safety" and author of more than 100 papers on laser and optical radiation safety. The research in his group over the last eight years concentrated on thermally induced injury that also provided the scientific background for amending the spot size dependence and multiple pulse rules of the retinal thermal limits.
