Laser 2000 GmbH has signed a new distribution agreement with leading laser manufacturer JDSU for the exclusive distribution of kW class fiber lasers and kW class direct-diode lasers throughout Europe.
The partnership covers distribution of highly advanced fiber lasers and direct-diode lasers which were jointly developed from the strategic alliance between JDSU and Amada, a leading cutting machine manufacturer.
More than 2,000 units of kW class fiber laser modules have been delivered since their introduction in 2011. With this agreement, JDSU and Laser 2000 are expanding availability of the latest multi-kW laser technology for macro-materials processing applications.
The new JDSU CORELIGHT™ AJ Series fiber lasers operate at 1,080 nm with a power up to 6.3 kW. The JDSU CORELIGHT™ ExC Series direct-diode lasers operate at 930 nm with power up to 4.2 kW. Compared to competing solutions, both CORELIGHT™ technologies offer significantly better beam quality, enabling increased cutting speeds for blank thicknesses up to 2 mm. The direct-diode lasers are an attractive alternative to CO2 lasers in metal processing because they provide higher cutting speeds, improved cutting quality, increased energy efficiency and lower maintenance requirements. These benefits can result in significantly lower overall costs for metal processing manufacturers.
The most prevalent applications are the cutting and welding of common metals such as steel, mild steel and aluminum, and direct-diode lasers are also used for processing titanium, brass and copper, as well as for surface treatment applications.
As a result of the partnership between JDSU and Laser 2000, Laser 2000 can now offer kW class lasers and accessories including beam delivery and processing optics. Fiber laser engines with powers up to 4.2 kW are available today and all other products will be available the second half of calendar 2015.
“We are very pleased to have Laser 2000 as a strategic partner for the distribution of our kW class products in Europe,” said Alan Lowe, president of the CCOP business segment at JDSU. “Laser 2000 offers customers a comprehensive solution that includes active laser safety and beam guidance components.”
"We consider this new partnership with JDSU a significant achievement and opportunity to work with a technology leader." Dr. Rüdiger Hack, Managing Director of Laser 2000 GmbH commented. “With almost 30 years of experience, we offer our new partner excellent technical knowledge of both products and customer applications.”
